"My Act!"

“Let me tell you about my act!”

Yasmina: For my act, the stage is filled with fiery hoops, trapezes and circus silks.  I dance through the fiery hoops, swinging myself from trapeze to trapeze and sliding in and out of the silks.  I catch fire as I pass through the hoops, but when my costume bursts into flame it is discarded, revealing another one underneath. Then suddenly the fire is gone, inside the hoops is a column of water – thirty feet high!  I dive through the wall of water, it collapses, raining down on the audience. And I am gone.

Cedric: I am an Illusionist!  I perform my act with 50 dancers. I fly up into the air, and transform them into a huge elephant!  Then I turn them back. I soar through the space again and this time I turn the audience into doves!  And then I turn them back!  For my finale I throw a deck of cards into the air – they turn into ravens with miniature elephants riding on their backs.  They swoop down and become fancy hats worn by each of the dancers, who then perform a Rockette kick line to thunderous applause.

Jill: I am both a lion tamer and a fire-eater. I spit fire, shoot flaming arrows, and jump through blazing hoops- all while playing my ukulele on the back of the lion. I can get uncomfortably close to the lions, putting my head in their mouths and swinging their tails back and forth. I do a variety of tricks like jumping a flaming rope twirled by the tails of two lions. The audience is astounded by my feats of bravery and strength.

Devon: A small snow globe gleams on a small table.  It begins to glow, it gets larger and larger.  So large that you can see that I am inside it entwined in silks that come down from the ceiling, I twist, I lean, I flip upside down, the most impossible stunts on silks that multiply and then disappear, leaving me hanging in nothing but air, I suspend for just a moment and then I start to fall to the ground, in slow motion.  It begins to snow.  I get smaller and smaller as the snow flakes get bigger and bigger, until we match in size and then the snow globe is just a snow globe on a small black table.

Dakota: I am a rhythmic gymnast.  My act starts in the dark, then a spoltlight reveals a huge red and white trampoline.  I fall from the sky onto the trampoline and perform a complex routine with ribbons and sounds mimic.  In one spectacular bounce I spring high into the sky, caught by my trapeze artist.  We perform death-defying tosses and then I fall back to the trampoline.  As I land 20 penguins come out and we conclude our act with me dancing with the penquins.

Rosie:  You may have heard of the Human Cannonball. But that’s just too easy. Behold. The Human Boomerang. Out of a 30 foot long blue cannon I fly, straight through the air. But wait. In a matter of seconds, I’m back. Perched on the same cannon from whence I came. But you best watch closely or you might just miss it.  To make sure you don’t miss it, my act begins with a long speech wherein I recount all my most famous world-wide boomerang stunts.

Lauren: I am a tightrope walker, but not just any tightrope walker.  I do pirouttes and back bend walkovers with the greatest of ease!  My most impressive feat is the continous cartwheels. In my most spectacular act, I perform 100 cartwheels in a row, on a tight rope stretched across the Grand Canyon as a forest fire blazes below.  On the 100th cartwheel a helicopter suddenly appears out of nowhere, a water hose dangling from the open door.  I grab ahold of the hose and extinguish the fire below.

Geo: A midnight blue tapestry flutters down from a wire, while at the same time a blindfold drapes over my eyes. I unsheath a thin, razor sharp sword and, guided solely by celestial insight, cut constellations of stars into the sky. Then, I leave the sword and, with intense deliberateness, swallow the blade, bite it off at the hilt, and blow out stardust through the tapestry, creating a glittering galaxy before the very eyes of our audience.

Wendy: A glowing feather drifts onto the stage, on landing, it turns into a cocoon. The cocoon swirls up, it gets bigger and bigger. Until a butterfly bursts spreading its wings. Hula hoops are projected from all directions and the butterfly is wrapped by all these hoops. The hoops get tighter and eventually pull the body of the butterfly apart and the butterfly vanishes into crystal dusts. When the dust falls on the stage floor and they become the seeds. The sun comes out and then a garden appears.

Gigi:  El nombre de mi personaje es Prudencia Santa Maria Carmen de la Rosa DeJesus Constanza. But call me Abuela. I have been in the circus for more than 50 years. Lately I have gotten clumsy, but the audience thinks it is a great act. Just the other day, I was on my way to the bathroom and I knocked over some fireworks that landed on a lighted cannon, causing the Human Boomerang to burst out of the cannon before she was fully costumed. No one got hurt, just maybe a little embarrassed. But my real act is when my teeth fall out and absorb the power of my magic.  They grow feet and run all around the tent while I try to catch them.

Ivy: All the light leaves the room. I enter, a vision of sparkling light and deep blue hues. Out of my skirt fly shimmering fireflies. Destined by the secret wishes of the audience, the fireflies fly to those they know believe. From the center of the tent grows a large maypole with hundreds of dancing ribbons, with my command the audience members that have been chosen by the fireflies now rise, and we through beautiful sunsets, thunderstorms, and starry night skies. Ever so slowly the maypole begins to shrink and the audience members float back to their seats, then tent goes dark. Then the fireflies create the images of wings on my back, and we fly out of the tent, a glittery, shimmering vision of light.

Benji: I learned my trick in the xxxxxx city born by the witches. See these playing cards? See this sword? I will toss these cards like darts into a dart board and slash them with the sword. They burst into flame, and turn into ash I catch the ash in my hand. I wipe it, blow it and out of the ash will come a rainbow colored bird of  paradise. It flies out and circles the crowd and gives the audience a vision of the future and then as quick as its there it is gone.

Dilan: Hi! I’m the girl with the chocolate balloons. In my act, my chocolate balloons fly me to my trampoline where I jump up up and up! Then I jump so high that I go to the balancing rope. I balance across the rope and when I get to the end I jump into a tiny teacup. While I fall down my magical balloon spreads out chocolate brownies and cupcakes! Make sure you catch them in time because they will disappear if you don’t!
